Well our season has come to an end! The last penning of the season had only 23 teams but with the great cattle supplied by Van, we definitely weren’t short on fun! It seemed that everyone’s skills seemed to peak for the last penning. There were only a few teams with no times but everyone’s times were much faster.
We would like to thank everyone for coming out this season and we look forward to seeing everyone this fall (old and new faces)! Please remember that this is your club! If you have any suggestions on improving anything, please let one of your board members know!
Check back on this website for updates on when we will start up again in the fall. If anyone would like to send us an article on what our members are doing during the summer, please send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Have a Great Summer!

Thirty-two riders showed up to move cows on Sunday, March 21st. In spite of the date change, the lack of a concession stand, pouring rain, and the absence of several regulars, there were thirty-two teams!! So of course it was lots of fun! First times through, the cows were either far too eager to please OR just plain smarter than the rest of us…..Once a rider moved into the herd, they ALL headed to the other end. Newer and seasoned riders alike got “no time” because too many cows crossed the line! We all got better, though……and there were some impressive runs! The MOST impressive was run by a team with Les Clark riding! As the team got ready to put the three cows in the pen, Banjo made a quick move. It looked like maybe Les’s knee--which had been kicked while collaring that morning—objected to that sudden weight change. Down in the dust went Les! Right in front of his fan club! All his fans yelled “Get up, Les! Get up and hold the hole!” So Les “cowboyed up”, remounted, held the hole, and the team got all three cows in for a very decent time!! What a guy!
Wow, the sun was out in full force for our latest penning! While it was almost too nice to be indoors we had a great turn out for penning. It seemed as everyone spent their time outside waiting for their next run as it was a beautiful day! The drawing winners for the hams were Bill Jones and Terisa Schmeer. As usual Van supplied great cattle and we thank him for being such a great contractor for us.
It was cold and foggy outside, but inside the Walla Walla Fairgrounds Arena there was heat in good measure! Warmed up horses, “hot to trot” cows, freshly grilled burgers and thick soup from the concession stand, and friends aplenty to laugh and cheer for good efforts! Forty-two teams faced off with great cows February 6th. Folks came from Hermiston and Yakima to join the locals. Winning tickets for three $50 gift certificates from Applebee’s were held by Connie Hauver, Wayne Norton and Dan Clark. Jeanne Ehmer, owner of Shan-Gri-La Boutique in Milton-Freewater, generously donated a $50 gift certificate for her shop, that was won by Tristin Baldwin. Everyone had a good time and is looking forward to the next penning date, February 20th.
Folks hauled in from sunny places to our foggy fairgrounds for more team penning fun and prizes. There were 59 teams last Saturday and the organizing team (up in the office) kept things moving right along with decreasing time allotments of 90, 75, 60 seconds per go. The hot soup, chili and fresh grilled burgers and dogs helped keep everyone warm while they waited their next run. We love having Kari there as the food vendor!!
